Game Day
For those who don't live in the south, the most important day of the year is not birthday's, anniversaries, or even christmas. It is the day of the state college rivalry. In Alabama this is between the University of Alabama (of which I am a grad) and Auburn University (of which my husband attended). It is always an interesting time of year, a lot of ribbing, and joking. But we do take our football seriously.
The big game is this Saturday. We as a family will gather at our youngest daughter's home (Teri, or as her nieces call her, Aunt T) to watch the game. We will also be celebrating Thanksgiving then, as I have to work the week of Thanksgiving (as emergency rooms do not close for the holidays). We have a very divided family. Our daughters (Tara, and Teri) are Auburn fans and their husbands are Alabama (remember, no one in our families have actually attended these schools except Mike and me). The two grandchildren are also divided - the 7 year old is an Aubrun(this is how she says it)fan and the 2 year old is Bama (we start them young down here). Fortunately for us, we are all generally good natured about the game. It hasn't caused any family splits so far. Some family bets have occured in the past but I have found that when Auburn loses, the Auburn fan will not fulfill the bet so, we have stopped that.
I am looking forward to the family fun we have when we get together. Hope your weekend is full of laughter, love and family.
P.S. ROLL TIDE!!!!

I don't really follow football (big baseball fan, me) but my alma mater is Fresno State and people tell me that the team they are playing this week is really good. They're called...USC or something. Have you heard of them?
I've heard of USC, I think Bama beat them once upon a time. I like their horse that the Trojan rides.

Having a father from Sylacauga, Alabama gives me some insight into the annual “Iron Bowl” clash between the Tide and the War Eagles/Tigers.” We buried my father with an Alabama Crimson Tide pin so we were Tide fans. I can remember going to Alabama to visit relatives one summer and seeing what seemed like thousands of billboards painted up with the words “Punt Bama, Punt!” This was due to an Auburn victory due to scoring 2 touchdowns on 2 blocked punts.
Since the 80’s the FSU – Gators game has gained the same kind of energy in our state. I was privileged to attend my first FSU – UF game last year in Tallahassee only to see the Gators upset the Noles in a feel good victory for their outgoing Coach Zook.
If there is a football God and he likes me, FSU will defeat the Gators in the Swamp this weekend and then turn around and beat the Hurricanes in the ACC Championship game for the 2nd time this year.
Wouldn’t you guys like to see me happy and not in uivyetot?
Steve - I'm rooting for the west coast version of FSU! Go Bulldogs!
nhxetl (too easy - my middle school student's spelling of Nextel)
I remember living in Texas and going to our houise there to watch "the game" as i called it. I had asked one of the guys at church if he was going to watch the game. He spoke blasphemy by asking, "What game?" But what does he know, he's from Texas?
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!
intqnal - Two things a quarterback fears the most, interception and broken fingernail.
I know it's a week early but am I allowed to say "Go Noles" on this blog?
