Christmas is finally over

We had Christmas yesturday with the family and it was wonderful. We ate (Taco salad) opened gifts (got some great things) and played games and laughed the rest of the afternoon. I told Greg that it felt like it used to at Mom's and Dad's when we all used to come home and have a good time with them and each other. It was a great day. The only drawback was Haley was a little under the weather.

I was really looking forward to going to worship this morning and we got up to a torrential downpour. I decided that with me just about well, Hannah with a stuffy nose and Haley with the stomach virus that being out in this weather was not such a good idea. So we are at home and going to de-Christmas the house (as Judy puts it).

Looking forward to a wonderful beginning to the new year. We may have a new addition before this day is out. Tara called us and Jenny (our step grandaughter is have contractions 8 minutes apart). We are waiting to hear further news.

Hope all of you have a great New Years and don't forget to eat your pork, blackeyed peas and greens (that is as southern as it gets).

Catch up

Hope all of you had a great Christmas. I haven't had mine yet. We are getting with the kids this Saturday for our Christmas. When people asked at work if Santa had been good to me, I had to answer, "I don't know." We were extremely busy in the ER this past 7 days. The flu and strep are running rampant in this area of the country. Children's Hospital in Birmingham had 8 children on respirators due to the severity of the flu. Many are developing pneumonia from the respiratory infections. And this is just the beginning of the flu season. I, was sent home from work last Wed with a 103 temp. I am still battling the upper respiratory part of it but do feel I may eventually get well. I was out for 1 and a half shifts but then had to work over every day when I went back so I think I made up for most of the time I was out. I told the powers that be that I would NOT be available to be called back in, 1. I had not had Christmas
2. I was going to try and get some rest and GET WELL
3. I had worked MY holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) and I wasn't interested in working someone else's New Years just because they got drunk the night before.

Family update: We have all had a bout of this respiratory junk. I think we are all.hopefully, on the mend. Mike went hunting this morning and was out about 15 minutes when he came back all out of breath - he had just shot and killed the buck he has been tracking for the past 3 years. A 12 point. He is so proud and I will give in and let him have this one mounted. Don't know where we are going to hang it but I will find a place.

The grands are doing well. They are currently playing with my keyboard and dancing around the room. The newest on Hannah - she told her Pawpaw she was going to go shopping and what did he want her to get him for Christmas. He said he just wanted his family to be healthy and happy. After a little thought, she said, I don't think I can get that at Walmart, what else do you want? If you can't get it at Walmart, you don't need it.

The latest news on Maddie (the Chinklett), Teri thinks they will be placed in January. We had hoped to have her by Christmas, but placement is about on time with the adoption timeline of the Chinese government of 15 months. January will be 15 months since their papers were submitted. Keep them in you prayers.

That's about it from Talladega. Sorry I haven't blogged but just haven't had the time or the energy of late to do much of anything. Will try to keep up with it better in the new year.

Love ya all.

Welcome to December

I have slept most of the day (Thursday) due to a touch of the flu. I was supposed to go to work but didn't make it as I had been up since 4 not doing too well. Anyway, since I have slept most of the day, now I am wide awake so, I'm sitting here as the month of December begins. We have had spring weather for the past week and now the wind is howling, tornados are in the area and it is pouring down rain. The temperature is to be in the 20's in the AM. I hope Mike got everything winter proofed before he left for out of town. If not, I guess I will find out when things start springing leaks.

Our house had two bedrooms added onto the original structure by the people we bought the farm from. The guy was cheap, so the construction left a lot to be desired. We have had a problem with the room we call Mom's having a leak in the roof. I think Mike finally got it fixed about 2 years ago. Now we have a leak in the other bedroom. There is so much work to be done around this place and no time to get it done. Isn't that kind of like life itself?
